J. Cole may have taken a brief hiatus from the public eye after the success of 2011′s The Sideline Story, but as of late he’s proved that he never really left. Already releasing a FreeEp this week, Cole followed up today, as promised, with the first single from his forthcoming album, Born Sinner. (more…)
This probably won’t surprise anyone, but DMX was arrested this morning. After going nearly two whole years without a legal issue, the rapper legally known as Earl Simmons, was caught driving without a license in the early hours of the morning. This seems to be pattern for Mr. X who was last arrested for driving recklessly with, you guessed it, a suspended license. I seriously wonder if people were placing bets on this in Vegas. (more…)
After delivering an appreciation letter to his fans via his blog, J. Cole dropped the new FreeEp, Truly Yours, today. Even though the release of Truly Yours was truly unexpected, there’s no way anyone could be mad at some new (let alone free) material from the Prince of the Roc. Is Callius Moon a disturbed individual with a comedic side or does he just have a penchant for hip-hop that defies logic? In one of the most bizarre courtroom defenses ever caught on camera, Moon, a Detroit resident accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend, took the stand to show off his impressive off-the-dome vernacular. Surprised by what he heard, District Judge John Chmura told Moon “that’s good” and actually admitted to being impressed before asking Moon if he will require a court-appointed attorney. Family members of Moon, who also faces charges ranging from destruction of police property to disturbing the peace, claim that he suffers from mental illness. HIt the jump for the outrageous video of what happened in court last week. (more…)
KRNDN, formerly Krondon, of Strong Arm Steady lets lose his first solo studio album, Everything’s Nothing, for Free99. Despite being the same person, KRNDN’s spelling change has also brought forth a change in sound. The mood of this Free LP varies greatly from what we’ve come to except from KNRND; there’s an absence of the West Coast boom-bap sound that SAS has become known for, as the instrumentals tend to be a little more futuristic on this release. Everything’s Nothing features production from the likes Cardo, DJ Khalil, 321 and DJ Dahi. Hit the jump for the track list, previews and the download link. (more…)
