Kickin’ It: Shmack
Today’s installment of your fashion fill is a focus on a clothing/footwear company called Shmack. Shmack is primarily known as a skateboarder’s company, but they’ve recently crossed over into urban wear (much like Supra). If you had to classify their attire, it would be under the hipster-hop umbrella, because most items run relatively tight and in colorful styles. Shmack is for those who are comfortable with their style and are daring enough to go to the left, even if they might look a little ridiculous. Shmack’s footwear ranges from skate shoes to casual, and all variations are pretty funky. Check out Shmack’s website for more info on the company and images below for some of their products.
Fashion Forward: Artful Dodger
In today’s fashion focus, I wanted to mention Artful Dodger. Artful Dodger has been picking up steam as a premier urban clothing line in recent months and has been featured in GIANT and Complex Magazines. The line features t-shirts and intricately designed hoodies with flourescent colorways; and custom denim that can be worn by someone who’s not a Franchize Boy. Ultimately, Artful Dodger is for sophisticated men who aren’t afraid to experiment and have a sense of style that doesn’t fall back on being too urban. According to their website, Artful Dodger sees itself as “of singular mind and purpose: to cause mischief and have fun doing it. Every piece of Artful Dodger clothing is meticulously planned and expertly executed to achieve maximum individual enjoyment and facilitate ease of havoc-wrecking.” Either way, check out some pictures below or more at their website.
10 Deep in the Game
You may have heard of clothing company 10 Deep. Heck, almost anyone who dresses mildly urban has. But the boys based out of New York seem to getting bigger and bigger with time with celebrity co-signs from newcomers Kid Cudi and Wale. the company was started in 1995, and the brand focuses on clothing that “conjures thoughts of movements, individuals, and ideologies of days past and present,” according to the website. Either way, they have a lot of great custom tee’s, custom fitted’s and even vinyl dolls. Check out some pictures of the attire below, and the website here to discover more about 10 Deep. Also, check out the lookbook for the Fall 2008 Collection (coming out September 2nd) here. Strength lies in the hands of an individual (10 fingers), not in the approval of one’s peers.
Fashion Forward: Supra
I recently read a blurb about sneaker company Supra in Complex Magazine, which told people to not wait for Jay-Z to tell them it’s cool, and to trust that it is. I’ll extend that by saying, don’t let anyone tell you what’s cool, but I’ll suggest which companies are hot right about now. With that being said, Supra was started by professional skateboarder Chad Muska a few years back, and has recently caught fire after Lil’ Wayne was donned head-to-toe in Supra at the BET Awards, and everyone from Nas to Mickey Factz has expressed their love for the brand. As of now, footwear is what they’re primarily known for, and they have models for skaters and for non-skaters. The models include Suprano, Suprano High, Diablo, Skylow, SkyTop, Sport, Cali, Cruzer, Cuban, Vaider and Vulk-Low. All the models come in several color ways and they all have a unique look to them. Check out the website here.
KICKED TO THE KERB
If it isn’t raining then it is certainly pouring in the world of Damon Dash right now. With two properties close to foreclosure, the brain behind the Roc in the early days has just recently lost his deal with Pro Keds. dash was brought on board to give the sneaker line a new face lift back in 2004 but now the company has decided to take the sneaker which turns 60 this year in a new direction and unfortunately Dame isn’t part of that. “It was just a matter of timing,” said Stride Rite spokeswoman Debra Fernandez. “We just wanted a new direction,” she went on to explain. Since the highly publicized split from Rocafella in 2004 Dame Dash has never really had the success he had when he was throwing up the Roc thats for sure.
MOS DEF GETS HEATED
Brooklyn rapper Mos Def was a lil upset at Magic this weekend in Vegas and allegedly lashed out at someone who was just taking a pic of one half of Black Star. The victim who is pressing charges against the rapper suffered a cut to the eye as Mos yanked the camera out of their hands while happily snapping celebs at the notorious trade show which took place in Vegas over the last few days. The infamous trade show is one of the most influential in the world where fashion houses display their new lines for the up coming seasons each August and February.
Fashion Forward: Mishka
Clothing like Mishka has been making waves in NYC and about for a few years now. Originally started by three kids of Russian descent in New York, the line is now offered around the country in boutiques and has an extensive selection on KarmaLoop, WorkMens, and their own site. The focus is primarily custom tee’s and custom hats. Check out some photos below of some of my favorite stuff offered on their site, and check it out for yourself at MishkaNYC.com.

SCOTT STORCH IN MORE DEEP WATER
He may be heading for a government holiday but you can be guaranteed that jeweler to the stars Jacob Arabov is making sure he is dealing with his business before heading out of town on his sabbatical. Having already named Wyclef Jean in a law suit for not paying balances owed on jewelry created and supplied by Arabov, new names have now been added to that list. These include Juvenile, Knicks player Eddy Curry and the infamous late payer Scott Storch. I think Jacob will have to join a very long line when it comes to getting his cash from Scott Storch somehow.
