After being deemed Princess of the Roc back in 2005, Teairra Marie fell off he throne pretty damn quick. Well anyway it looks like homegirl is back looking for her second shot at stardom and where better to start than King mag. Maybe she is joining the ever growing line of ‘video vixens,’ but I doubt it as she is now signed to Interscope and has new management in the way of Fo’Reel Ent. (original name there…gotta love it) who basically have directed the career of Nelly. Her album is said to be dropping top of 2009 with a who’s who in production providing the Detroit gal some serious beats.

Possibly one of the best soul, R&B acts we have seen emerge in the new millennium Robin Thicke has ousted Vibe in a recent interview for not putting him on the cover because he is white. The Lost Without You singer who is a personal fave of Jimmy Iovine, Andre Harrell, Pharrell Williams and married to Paula Patton (Deja Vu and Idelwide) put the glossy on blast in a recent interview with Billboard and rightly so. Their response to Thicke asking if a cover story was a possibility was this ‘Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe,’ “Thicke said. “Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem.” Funny that as I can think of Justin Timberlake on the cover of Vibe, I remember No Doubt front lady Gwen Stefani on the front cover and going through my old collections of the YEAR…wasn’t Robert DeNiro on there too. Come on good people at Vibe you need to sort your lies out if you gonna lie, becasue remarks like that are going to be put on blast. Robin Thickes Something Else project hits shelves on September 9th.

Today is the 50th birthday of the most prolific artist of our time, the ever controversial Michael Jackson. At this point, we don’t have a clue what the next 50 years will bring us. All we can hope for is that he learned his lesson about children in his bed and how NOT a good look it presents. Check out the side-by-side picture of what he has become and how he possibly could have looked if he stayed Black. Additional reporting by Rashaan Meador
Things are looking up for T.I. and his upcoming album Paper Trail. He has made Billboard history with his latest single “Whatever You Like,” by leaping 70 spots to reach the No. 1 chart in just three weeks. According to Billboard, the hit song has jumped to the top position in record time. This marks his first ever No. 1 single and his opening-week digital total (205,000 downloads) is reportedly the best from a hip-hop song since SoundScan began gathering download data in 2003. If you were at the Irving Plaza last night watching Game perform were in for a serious treat. The Compton rapper was obviously sending out a few signs with those who accompanied him on stage as he and his Black Wall Street crew celebrated the release of his third album LAX which hit shelves yesterday. Game was joined by plenty of NY rappers including Jim Jones, Maino, Fat Joe, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. But surprisingly enough I thought was the presence of Kool Herc who Game brought out on stage at the packed out show. Joe Budden was also in the house and of course so was the other G Unit member who jumped ship…Young Buck. Just wouldn’t have been a show if the two out of towners didn’t mention former label mates 50, Banks and Yayo of course. But all in all a good night appeared to be had by all and Buck was quick to tell Joe he had no beef. So I guess 50 was really pulling strings on the Elephant in the Sand mixtape which was only put out a few months back where Buck openly dissed Joey Crack. Hmmm ok
Jay-Z and his business partners have officially announced the sale of the 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undetermined amount. Mr. Carter said in a released statement: “The sale is a great business decision, we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo”. It is close to seventy years since the Hollywood Palladium first opened its doors. The venue was the place that encouraged the careers of artists like Frank Sinatra and performers such as the Rolling Stones and James Brown as well as holding high profile parties for the likes of John F Kennedy and dare I say in the same breath as JFK, Paris Hilton and Lyndsey Lohan. The 4,000 capacity venue was leased to Live Nation back in 2007 and the company decided to make some changes to the iconic venue in an attempt to restore the art-deco inspired building to its former glory. So who better to hit the stage on the opening night on October 15th but Live Nation’s very own poster boy Jay Z. “Just as Frank ushered in a golden era, I hope this opening will mark the beginning of a resurgence in generation-defining live music,” said Brooklyn’s finest.
