Jay-Z and his business partners have officially announced the sale of the 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undetermined amount. The 24,000 square foot sports bar located in The Palazzo Casino will not operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is only for the lease of the building. Mr. Carter said in a released statement: “The sale is a great business decision, we are delighted. We look forward to expanding the brand even further to Chicago and Tokyo”. It is close to seventy years since the Hollywood Palladium first opened its doors. The venue was the place that encouraged the careers of artists like Frank Sinatra and performers such as the Rolling Stones and James Brown as well as holding high profile parties for the likes of John F Kennedy and dare I say in the same breath as JFK, Paris Hilton and Lyndsey Lohan. The 4,000 capacity venue was leased to Live Nation back in 2007 and the company decided to make some changes to the iconic venue in an attempt to restore the art-deco inspired building to its former glory. So who better to hit the stage on the opening night on October 15th but Live Nation’s very own poster boy Jay Z. “Just as Frank ushered in a golden era, I hope this opening will mark the beginning of a resurgence in generation-defining live music,” said Brooklyn’s finest.
Looks like the leak of Swagga Like Us has maddened one of the four artists present. With a one year sentence on the horizon you can kind of understand why Tip is a lil heated about the track featuring himself, Weezy, Kanye and Jigga. The track which has had mixed reviews from fans and the industry was not supposed to be available until late next month according to TI who had this to say on the subject ‘Wait till the cake comes out the kitchen before you eat it. That’s like a kid who sees his toys before Christmas; it takes away from me and from the fans as well.’ Ahh well as we all know the leak is more guaranteed that a hit is these days.
Trick Trick, the Detroit rapper and co-owner of Plan B Nightclub is maintaining that the incident involving Yung Berg had nothing to do with him. In his interview with AllHipHop.com, Trick Trick detailed the specifics behind the assault and robbery of Berg. He has been in the center of rumors circulating that he set up the Chicago rapper because of past comment he made about him and the Detroit rap scene. Additional reporting by Rashaan Meador
This is a hot trio, I have to admit. I really like the idea of TI rapping over a Just Blaze beat, and I assume he can kill it like most other rappers Justin works with. And Rihanna is always good on collabs – it seems that she never learned how to make a record not a hit. Download below and let us know what you think of TI‘s latest track off Paper Trail. Very positive feel to this track. perspective‘s two cents: I fixed the link, and threw in a preview link as well.. Just Blaze is sampling some techno song and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t figure out which one. It’s kind of intersting how T.I.’s style has evolved from Trap Muzik (his best album hands down) to Paper Trail. He’s just getting his grown man on as he should. TI feat. After J Dilla’s untimely death a few years back, there’s been much speculation as to who would carry on the legacy. DJ Mick Boogie used some of his tracks and did a mixtape with Busta Rhymes, which was a pretty nice big-up, but since then there hasn’t been anything too major, besides some unreleased tracks produced by Dilla for MF Doom and Ghostface. Now, Dilla’s little brother is apparently carrying on the Yancey tradition and is rapping over big brother’s tracks. The latest is entitled “Illa J,” available for download below. The album is entitled “Yancey Brothers,” I believe. Let us know what you think if little man is worthy of the great one’s tracks. Illa J – “We Here”(produced by J Dilla) To Preview Track Click Here
LL has been releasing some tracks from his upcoming final album Exit 13 lately, and the latest installment is “Feel My Heart Beat” featuring 50 Cent. The track is pretty bouncy and sound like it could be a single, and 50 lends yet another quality hook to his cohort. The idea of the song is LL hitting on a girl, apparently. I have to admit, I hate when rappers have wives and children and are still rapping about this shit, but so be it. He’s not the first, and he won’t be the last. So download the track below and let us know what you guys think. perspective‘s two cents: Twenty bucks says these guys spent 20 minutes in front of the mirror admiring each others pecs, and then made out just to see what it would feel like. It has been reported that an LA Coroner announced the death of Dr. Dre’s son Andre Young Jnr yesterday. Allegedly the twenty year old son of the Aftermath label boss was found unconscious by his Mother in the early hours of Saturday morning after he had returned home after a night out. The cause of death is so far unknown but toxicology reports carried out by the LA Coroners officer will become available later this week.
Last year, Kanye’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing Mixtape featured some of his own material and some quality songs from cohorts like Common, Kweli and 88-Keys. One track was entitled “Stay Up,” and featured a verse from Yeezy and a poem from Malik Yusef. Now, as I said in a recent post, 88 is prepping his debut album, and what seems to be the first single has been dropped – “Stay Up.” Download the full version below and tell us what you think about the collaboration. Rap duo The Cool Kids has been getting some major buzz lately. After months and months of releasing singles, they finally released their first project, entitled The Bake Sale EP. The EP was sold on iTunes and in Best Buy and other retailers, and actually sold pretty well for the independent artists. The Kids are currently touring all over the world, and are still releasing new material. Their latest venture is a partnership with Mountain Dew, with whom they released a single called “Delivery Man.” Basically, Mountain Dew is supporting their music by sponsoring their creation, and not even getting anything in return. No e-mail required, no payment required, just free music! Download the song below, and look for another Cool Kids project in the works. I recently heard they were offered a 360 by Def Jam, here’s to hoping they don’t take it. The Cool Kids – “Delivery Man” To Preview Track Click Here
