Kanye Closes the VMA’s!

If you didn’t catch the MTV VMA’s last night – there were a few highlights you should catch on the rerun. Wayne performed with T-Pain, Travis Barker & DJ AM were the house band, Britney Spears won three awards, and Kanye absolutely shut the house down with his new single, “Love Lockdown.” Supposedly the new track is off his new album, set to drop by December. He had an enormous stage backdrop and had what seemed like a 30-piece drumline – clearly inspired by China’s Opening Ceremony for the Olympics.   Download “Love Lockdown” below and let us know what you think of Kanye’s new direction. VIDEO: KANYE ALBUM TO DROP IN DECEMBER

Looks like Kanye is ready to drop his next project Good Ass Job in December. He was giving people a sneak peek into a new song from his up and coming release last week. The first single from the project is Love Lock Down. I am sure this will be good news to certain ears.

Chamillionare: The Mixtape Messiah?

Chamillionare has been gaining his relevance back recently after dropping a new mixtape – Mixtape Messiah 4. The tape is hot and is available for download below. Meanwhile, Chamillionare told HipHopDX in an interview that he respects 50 Cent and Lil’ Wayne as essential artists in the mixtape movement. In the interview, he spoke on 50 Cent’s golden times: “Back in the day, when 50 first came out, he had some real dope mixtapes. Now, it’s more the commercial thing where people say you’re singing a hook or whatever. Back then, he was just jackin’ peoples’ beats and puttin’ them real catchy melodies on a tight beat, and just puttin’ out tight stuff.“ He also feels that Wayne’s hard work is unmatched in the current climate: “He out-working everybody on the mixtape circuit. When I talk to the underground stores out here in the mixtape world, they tell me that Wayne‘s runnin’ it. He’s the most active.” There’s no denying Wheezy and 50′s contributions to rap, and the mixtape game more specifically. Check out Cham’s new mixtape and let us know if you think he deserves to be mentioned with the elite. Chamillionare – Mixtape Messiah 4

Labor Day Gift: Jay Electronica Mixtape

A few months back, newcomer Jay Electronica made a splash after dropping a mixtape themed after the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The mixtape was a 20-minute trackless stream that included samples from the film and monologues about Jay from Just Blaze and Erykah Badu. Since, Jay was signed to Erykah’s label and got a major big-up from Nas. Jay is now scheduled to go on a tour with Nas for the Untitled album. And if you don’t read the credits on your new albums, Jay was the producer on “Queens Get the Money” track on Nas’s new album.   Jay is an impeccable lyricist and comes up with concepts I’ve personally never heard anyone rap about. It’ll take some getting used to and some major focus on what the f*ck he’s talking about, but once you get it, you really get it. He’s not one of the Lupe’s that’s totally over heads, but rather just someone who uses crazy lyrical wit to bring up untouched topics (UFO’s??). As a Labor Day gift, there is a link below to a mixtape created that compiles all of Jay’s released material. It can be a little hard to find, so enjoy. Happy Labor Day.   Jay Electronica – What the F*ck is a Jay Electronica

WHERE SHE BEEN?

After being deemed Princess of the Roc back in 2005, Teairra Marie fell off he throne pretty damn quick. Well anyway it looks like homegirl is back looking for her second shot at stardom and where better to start than King mag. Maybe she is joining the ever growing line of ‘video vixens,’ but I doubt it as she is now signed to Interscope and has new management in the way of Fo’Reel Ent. (original name there…gotta love it) who basically have directed the career of Nelly. Her album is said to be dropping top of 2009 with a who’s who in production providing the Detroit gal some serious beats.
