SEPT 2nd FOR RECESSION

Two years since he released his Inspiration album, Atlanta’s prodigal son Young Jeezy has announced that his new project The Recession will be available on September 2nd. The album which features artists such as Akon, The Game and Kanye West also boasts production from names such as Jazze Pha, DJ Toomp and Shawty Redd. In preparation for the release, Jeezy will be embarking on a three week promo tour which will have the rapper calling into cities such as Detroit, Cleveland, New York, New Orleans and Dallas. Inspiration to date has sold close to 1.5 million copies.

The GOOD Music Family Brings You…”Disperse”

Kanye West’s label, GOOD Music,  is made up of several of his cohorts and longtime collaborators like Consequence, John Legend, Common, Really Doe and GLC. So, to piggyback off of Ye’s current supersonic fame, the GOOD Music fellas came with a hot song and a video to match. The song, entitled “Disperse,” is Consequence’s track and features GLC and Really Doe. Consequence is of course Q-Tip’s cousin, and is also a decent rapper and is putting in work to live up to the family name. Check out the video link below and keep your eyes peeled for appearances by Pharrell, Chad Hugo, ‘Ye, Lupe and Fam-Lay. Director Rik Cordero did a good job on this one. He seems to be everywhere nowadays. Consequence – “Disperse” Video Over at Rik Cordero’s YouTube Channel

Jay “Puts On” Too!

Finally! Jay-Z has hopped on Young Jeezy’s “Put On” for yet another astonishing remix Jay can put under his belt. The remix has been anticipated for a long time, and for some strange reason, Kanye (who is on the original) is a no-show for this version, but Jay makes up for it. Check out the download below to hear a new verse from Jizzle and some ill rhyme-saying from the God himself.  Young Jeezy feat. Jay-Z – “Put On Remix”  Preview the track here.

A Long-Awaited Return from Free

Freeway, arguably the only Rocafella soldier who can actually rap (besides Jay, of course), is back. If you recall, Free’s debut album, Philadelphia Freeway, was absolutely amazing. It had guest spots from Jay, Beanie Sigel, Nate Dogg and was produced almost in its entirety by Kanye West and Just Blaze. Free was definitely the first to set himself apart from the other Roc rhymers, and to this day his voice and flow is unlike most artists we’ve heard. For his second album, Free gained a cosign from 50 Cent and his album Free at Last featured guests like Jay, 50, Busta Rhymes and Scarface.  Now, less than a year after Free at Last, free is bumping some new sh*t. His new track, aptly titled “Bumping My New Shit.” To check out Free on his A-game, click here to download the track. Check out a preview for the track here.

Just Blaze Drops a 90′s Mixtape

Justin Blaze, as Jay-Z so comically calls him, has been producing the hottest rappers in hip-hop for years now. After getting major recognition for producing hits on Jay’s Blueprint, Just Blaze moved on to work with everyone from The Game and DMX and TI to Rhymefest and Talib Kweli. His unique soul samples and fast-tempo, drum-heavy tracks keep any rapper hitting up Just for some beats. Just was also the exclusive producer on Saigon’s debut album, which has been pushed back for about 4 years now. Just has also been rumored to be working with new Interscope artist Wale and Erykah Badu’s protege Jay Electronica.  In the meantime, Just decided to go old-school and bring his fans a 90′s hip-hop mixtape entitled 90′s Flava. The 51-track tape features everyone from AZ and Method Man to Das EFX, Brand Nubian and Pete Rock. It’s the first time in a long time I’ve seen Just hosting a mixtape, and listening to his selection of the best 90′s hits should be pretty educational.  Download the mixtape here, and let us know what you think.

FOXY GOT RED LIGHT FOR BOOK

Reports have surfaced that the recent lawsuit filed against Brooklyns Don Diva Foxy Brown are incomprehensible to the rapper and her legal team. Allegedly Simon and Schuster who filed last week to attempt to recoup the $75,000 advance they gave her for the book had agreed to put the book on hold while Foxy underwent treatment to resolve her hearing issue.According to  Laura Dilimetin, the rappers lawyer, once Foxy had recovered from the issues correlating to her loss of hearing the publishing company waved the red flag until they told her otherwise. It is unclear at this time what the outcome of the tentatively titled book Broken Silence will be. According to reps for Brown, various other publishing companies have show interest in her penning her autobiography for them. And with her troubled past you can guarantee that it will be a big seller. In other Foxy news, her so called boo, Rick Ross has indicted that the couple are no longer an item…were they ever?  You know Fox isn’t going to get down with a C.O.

Nick Catchdubs drops “Slick”

Nick Catchdubs, co-founder of Fool’s Gold Records, is blowing up. After handling the mixing duties for both of Wale’s mixtapes, Catchdubs is set to release a mixtape with Timbaland’s new artist, Izza Kizza, tomorrow. Catchdubs is a DJ first and foremost (a dope one at that) and is currently working on transitioning into the production realm. After meeting DJ A-Trak several years ago, they founded Fool’s Gold Records, which currently houses some of house music’s hottest DJ’s, rapper Kid Sister and newcomer Kid Cudi. Catchdubs has consequently aligned himself with some of the best new hip-hop, and is finally making a name for himself in the genre. To commemorate this, he’s released a brand-new promo mixtape, entitled Slick. The mix is 20-tracks long, but in true DJ fashion, has no tracks or breaks. It is simply a 59-minute mix of everything from old to new and from hip-hop to dancehall to electro. Download the mix here and let us know what you think of Catchdubs.   Nick Catchdubs – Slick

Alternative Pick: New Chromeo Video!

If you’re unfamiliar with “electrofunk” group Chromeo, you better ask somebody. Chromeo is based out of Canada and is comprised of Dave 1 (phenomenal DJ and brother of DJ A-Trak) and P-Thugg. The two met in Canada, where they were born and raised, and founded what they call the “only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture.” The duo has recently released their second album, entitled Fancy Footwork on Vice Records, which features singles “Fancy Footwork” and “Momma’s Boy.” I’ve spent quite a bit of time on the group’s MySpace, and though such a place is not always the most credible of sources for an album’s description, theirs is likely the most unique and hilarious I’ve ever read: “Chromeo, the band reborn…the sex, the beats, the dream the suits, the gloves, the laughs, the tears, the past and the future. All rolled up into one big blunt, smoked up through P’s talkbox tube and exhaled into your brain. Enjoy.” Definitely a dope album that you should pick up, and for now, check out the video for “Momma’s Boy.” Oh, and also check out the brand-new Fancy Fancier Footwork, featuring remixes and fresh material from the duo. Chromeo – “Momma’s Boy” Video

Atlanta’s own Ludacris and DJ Drama have teamed up to bring the fans what they want – some new music from Luda before his album finally drops. Theater of the Mind has been pushed back quite a few times, and is now looking at an October release. It’s been a few years since Luda has made some really dope music (Red Light District) and fans are really anxious to give him another shot after Release Therapy. And, who better to team up with for a comeback than the premier mixtape DJ of the decade, DJ Drama? The mixtape was released today and features 21 fresh tracks. Check out the download link below…  Download The Preview here

Murs & 9th Wonder Bring More Heat

California-bred emcee Murs is finally starting to gain some mainstream fame before his third major album, Murs for President, drops. Murs is currently on tour with Rock the Bells, and is preparing the afforementioned album for a September release on Warner Bros. Records. To up the hype a little bit more, Murs and longtime collaborator 9th Wonder decided to release a 10-track album for free online. The album is entitled Sweet Lord and is exclusively produced by 9th Wonder. If you don’t know 9th, he’s worked with Jay-Z, Little Brother, Buckshot and plenty of other wordsmiths over the years. Check out Sweet Lord here, and get ready for Murs for President. I’ve heard the album, and it’s absolutely ridiculous. Look for the review right here sometime next week.
