By: Rizoh Busta Rhymes has added fuel to the fire that engulfed the one year death anniversary of his bodyguard, Israel Ramirez. Last week, we told you about Ramirez’s outcry on Busta’s failure to cooperate with iinvestigators on the murder mystery. Well, Rhymes now says he feels no guilt over the shooting of his bodyguard. "It doesn’t hurt me (what the family say) because I don’t live with guilt,” Busta told MTV News recently. I didn’t do nothing. I didn’t contribute to that negative (in any) shape or form.” He added, "What I did, I offered my man an opportunity to make money to provide food on the table for his family. We were in a work environment which was supposed to be a controlled environment, a place where we were supposed to be productive. We had children on the set. The environment was a completely positive environment." "As far as certain family members feeling a certain way about me, I can never hold that against them because everybody gotta deal with tragedy in their own way. Especially when it’s direct personal tragedy. All I can do is try to be the greatest support system I could be despite how they want to use me as a punching bag. I’m cool with that." In February 2006, Ramirez was gunned down on the set of Busta’s “Touch It” music video.

By: Rizoh Producer/emcee Kanye West isn’t the only one in his family with a resourceful mind. His mom, Dr. Donda West, is putting final touches on an upcoming memoir titled Raising Kanye. As the title suggests, the book chronicles Kanye’s upbringing and includes previously unpublished photos and family anecdotes. Donda West recently told the Chicago Sun Times that Kanye encouraged her to write the book. "There [is] a whole lot of mothers who are just as proud of their children as I am of Kanye. I am not that different from any mother that loves her son dearly," she said. Dr. West worked as the head of the English Department at Chicago State University before retiring to serve as Kanye’s manager. She’s the CEO of West Brands LLC, which oversees the management of all of her son’s enterprises. Raising Kanye, co-written with best-selling author Karen Hunter, will be available via Simon & Schuster on Mother’s Day.

By: Rizoh New reports have surfaced on the cause of Gerald Levert’s death. We now know that the R&B singer did not die from an accidental mix of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs, despite earlier reports. US Coroner Kevin Chartrand has pointed out that Levert died from acute intoxication. His blood contained several allergy medication and painkillers. 40-year old Gerald Levert passed away in Philadelphia last November. He had just completed work on a new studio album, In My Songs, said to reflect his arrival at a personal crossroads. A family spokesperson confirmed that the R&B great had been taking pain medication for a shoulder problem and was taking Xanax for anxiety attacks.
By: Quibian Salazar-Moreno In 2006 Rawkus Records made a comeback with excellent albums from The Procussions, Kidz in the Hall and Panacea. To help further their brand as well as help forward-thinking hip-hop artists the label is launching its “Rawkus 50” initiative. The “Rawkus 50” will be 50 unsigned artists or groups hand selected by founders Jarrett Myer, Brian Bater and content manager Slop Funk Dust to help them market and promote their latest project. “This is such a great opportunity for both artist and label,” Myer said. ”There are so many talented artists with substance and a do it yourself spirit that deserve a larger promotional outlet.” Bater added, “with the Rawkus 50, Rawkus will provide unprecedented opportunities for Independent artists.” Rawkus will provide the Rawkus 50 with a full-fledged online marketing campaign as well as print ads, NY and L.A. showcases and blog and podcasting hosting. In addition, the artist is free to sign with any label of their choosing and possibly entertain an offer from Rawkus Records as well. “When have you ever heard of a respectable record label accepting unsolicited material from the general public? I could send my demo to Def Jam, but it’s just gonna end up on someone’s floor,” Slop Funk Dust said. “The Rawkus guys are loading up their IPOD’s and listening to submissions like mad men. This is the perfect opportunity for that one guy, that’s been recording albums in his basement and posting his videos on youtube. It is also perfect for artists that are already established and have followings and are just interested and hungry. For those established artists this can be a way better outlet than mixtapes.” To see if you qualify, check out the press release here: RAWKUS.
By: Rizoh If you saw last night’s Grammys, you probably noticed that Mary J Blige gave a very long acceptance speech the first time she took the stage to receive a trophy. By Quibian Salazar-Moreno LL’s last album didn’t do too well. The last couple of movies, “Last Holiday” or “Edison”, hardly anyone remembers those, so what’s next? Head back to television. CBS gave the okay for a pilot of “The Man”, written by “CSI” creator Anthony Zuiker and starring LL, to be taped and considered to be added to the network’s fall lineup. “The Man” centers on an L.A. undercover cop, played by LL, who juggles his job while developing a fatherlike relationship with a boy orphaned after one of his drug busts, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Zuiker wrote the script and will be executive producing with LL and his manager Jason Barrett getting co-producing credit.
By: Rizoh Styles P’s latest album, Time Is Money, has only been in stores for less than two months, but the D-Block wordsmith is ready to unleash his next disc. While speaking to New York’s Hot 97 FM, Styles P (born David Styles) disclosed that his third LP, The 5 Star General, will be released on Koch Records this May. “I’m going over to Koch. I like those guys. They get the work done,” he told Angie Martinez. The 5 Star General features Akon on a song titled “Eyez on You.” The album also contains what Styles described as “songs for the ladies.” Will third time be the charm for SP? Only time will tell.
By: Rizoh Jadakiss, known for his slick metaphors and tough talk, has been indicted charges of weapons and drug possession. The 31-year old emcee born Jason Phillips pled “not guilty” to those charges Westchester County Court yesterday (February 8th). His lawyer Clement Patti maintained that he was yet to see or hear of any evidence connecting his client to possessing this weapon. According to Patti, Jadakiss was in the back seat and didn’t know there was a gun in the front console. As previously reported on hiphopcrack, Kiss was one of four people stopped by Yonkers Police department in September, 2006. Cops had observed that the driver of the 2006 Toyota Camry transporting Jada and others was behaving oddly, and noticed an odor of marijuana as they approached the car. If convicted on the gun charge, Jadakiss could face between 16 months and seven years behind bars.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno There are some issues going down in Kentucky regarding Ludacris, a local promoter and a local high school. Lexington’s Bryan Station High School recently opened up a new high school building and as part of the celebration and support for music education, local promoter Jim Lunsford announced that the high school band would open up for Ludacris when he came to town on February 22, in addition to donating $10,000 worth of musical instruments for every artists he brings to Lexington. Apparently the parents weren’t having it as they emailed pages of Ludacris’ lyrics to the school district’s superintendent Stu Silberman. Silberman then announced that the high school band will not be opening for Ludacris because of the content of his lyrics. "We’re not trying to judge Ludacris or anything like that," Silberman told the Lexington Herald-Leader. "We’re trying to make a decision based on what we believe is best for our kids." Which is all fine and good, but now folks are wondering if they should accept the $10,000 worth of musical instruments from Lunsford, who gets the money from tickets sales to the show. "Everything that Ludacris stands for and talks about is specifically against Fayette County code of conduct in Fayette County Public Schools," Jack Pattie, a local radio host and father of a student at the school, said. "If you use the language he uses, you’ll get suspended. If you beat up women, you’ll be suspended. If you use drugs, you’ll be suspended." Is it time for Luda to change it up?
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Timbaland blew up 2006 with his production behind Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado and he’s trying to move more into the rock arena. He’s already worked on the upcoming album from Duran Duran and he recently told Entertainment Weekly that he’s hoping to work with super star rock band, Coldplay as well. ”It would give me a new energy; it would take me to a whole other place,” Timbaland told EW on Tuesday. ”[Coldplay] are so talented, it would help me as a person. Working with them would be great. It’s about the music — not clothes or jewelry, just pure passion for music.” Tim’s publicist also told EW that the producer plans to meet with Coldplay sometime in April as they plan to record a follow-up to 2005’s triple platinum, X&Y. Apparently, Coldplay might consider Timbaland working on the entire project with the band, but the band has not confirmed or denied the reports. Timbaland’s new album, Timbaland Present Shock Value, is set to drop on March 27 with appearances from Furtado, Timberlake, Fall Out Boy, The Hives, She Wants Revenge, Jay-Z, Elton John, Snoop Dogg, M.I.A. and a host of others.
