By: Rizoh You may remember Teairra Mari, erstwhile self-ordained Princess of The Roc, and her ladies anthem "Make Her Feel Good." The teenage singer recently disclosed on her MySpace blog that she has now severed ties with Roc-A-Fella. On the blog entry which has now been reset to be accessible by friends only, Teairra writes: "Ok! I couldn’t hold this in much longer. I have to address my current standing with Roc-A-Fella Records.I am currently NOT signed to the label. I didn’t get dropped, it was a mutual agreement between myself and the label. I felt that I needed a label to support the Teairra Mari brand.I am looking around for deal and see which label is going to give me the best support. Right now I am a free agent. I have a few labels trying to holla at me. There’s one in particular that I am interested in but right now I decided to take a break and recoup.I created a wonderful debut album that was well received but people were feeling it. I am glad that most of you went out and supported me. Just to set the record straight, I still got love for Jay and all the other artist over at the label. It was a business move and not a bad one.I am currently still recording my second album which is being revamped and is "Untitled" will be out soon. Hopefully if things work out my album will be out next year." The Detroit native released her debut album, Roc-A-Fella Presents Teairra Mari, in August 2005. Teairra, who turns 19 in December, hopes to release her sophomore album sometime in January.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno VH1 recently announced their lineup of new shows within their “celebreality” niche with a couple of them concentrating on the hip-hop industry. Ego Trip’s White Rapper Show is a competition between wannnabe white rappers who want the same success as Eminem and the Beastie Boys. Hosted by MC Serch, the veteran emcee from the renowned 3rd Bass, and legendary producer Prince Paul the show will out 10 contestants through challenges designed to test their musical credibility, knowledge of hip hop culture and their ideas about race. The other hip-hop inspired show is the Irv Gotti Project starring The Inc.’s (formerly Murder Inc.) fearless leader Irv Gotti. The show follows Gotti as he attempts a comeback with The Inc. and overcomes the stigma of being investigated for 3 years by the federal government on charges of money laundering and acquitted and juggles the responsibility of being a husband and father. The shows, along with Man Band, Untitled Whitestar Project, Rags to Riches and Bridging the Gap (the first episode features Queen Latifah and Eve), will premiere within the first couple of months of 2007.
By:Quibian Salazar-Moreno After producing mega-hits for the likes of The Game, Chamillionaire, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne, Cool & Dre are going the label executive route. Their newly launched label, Epidemic Music, have announced a partnership with Skeleton Key Entertainment and will release the debut album of their first artist Miami emcee Joe Hound. "Joe Hound captures the Miami sound that we’ve worked hard to develop. He has the potential to be at the forefront of a musical movement for Miami," Cool said. "We believe that the industry is changing and that the best way to introduce Joe to the masses is through an independent company like Skeleton Key that understands our vision and supports what we are trying to achieve,” Dre added. Hound’s debut album will drop in early 2007 mostly produced by Cool & Dre. Also expect to hear newly produced tracks from Young Jeezy, Eve, Keyshia Cole and Chris Brown in next few months.
ByQuibian Salazar-Moreno Spike TV announced that it will be airing “Afro Samurai” starting January 4, 2007 with a DVD dropping in the spring. The animated series is based on a graphic novel by Takashi Okazaki and tells the story of a Black samurai’s hunt for the gunman who murdered his father. Samuel L Jackson is executive producing the series as well as voicing the lead character Afro. RZA will be scoring the series. "As a fan of martial art and old Japanese Samurai movies, I have always wanted to be a part of such creativity and to have my own spice added is even better. Many hip hop artist and musicians from the late 80′s to now have been inspired by this form of entertainment, and today’s animators have been stimulated by hip hop. But, usually these two forms of expression never meet in the same realm of artistry," RZA said back in June when he joined the project. "Afro Samurai offers me the opportunity to mix the innovational world of hip hop with the visual imagination of Japanese animation. The vibe of Afro Samurai is so soulful and cool, that when I was asked to compose the series my creative juices immediately reacted. I felt it was something meant for me to do; in many ways Afro and myself share the same spirit." Actors Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Kelly Hu (X2: X-Men United) will also voice characters for the series. Gonzo, the Japanese animation company, is producing the series and recently released the trailer Here.

By: Rizoh 50 Cent emerged victorious last Friday, as a Miami federal judge dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit accusing 50 of stealing the opening line for his 2003 smash "In Da Club" from a song by former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell. According to The Miami Herald, U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck adjudged that the disputed phrase was a "common, unoriginal, and noncopyrightable element of the song" and was not liable to copyright protection. Judge Huck also ruled that there are no real similarities between the two songs, and the phrase in question ("Go shorty, it’s your birthday") represents only eleven seconds of a three-minute song. "No reasonable jury would conclude that the compositions have substantial similarities and the average person would not confuse the two songs," the judge stated. Luke Campbell’s song, "It’s Your Birthday," was featured on his 1994 solo disc Still a Freak for Life.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Even though Brown Boy dropped his album, Livin’ Shady, over a year ago, his new single “Superman” is creating a buzz. The song, which Brown Boy recues abused women from their abusive partners, broke into the Billboard 100 and is making waves on California radio. The former middle school math teacher, who previously released a couple of indie chicano rap album, hopes that the success of the new single will get fans to cop the album so they can hear a message everyone needs. “I realize where I came from, kids are going to look up to me,” said Brown Boy, who grew up in rural Blythe, California. “I’m now in a position where I can encourage people to follow their own dreams like I did, but also make sure they have something to fall back on. This is an album parents can buy for their kids and listen to as well without worrying about hearing bad language. I stand strong on being positive.” The album features appearances from Lighter Shade of Brown, NB Ridaz, Nino Brown, Fingazz and Zapp. For more info, check it out here.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Even though Andre 3000’s much-hyped Cartoon Network series Class of 3000 doesn’t launch until November 3, the prequel to the series, Sunny Bridges: From Bankhead to Bankhead airs tonight on Cartoon Network. The story follows Sunny Bridges, a music superstar, who leaves his career at the height of his fame to teach a class at his old school, Westley School for the performing arts. "My Sunny character, he’s a little bit Andre 3000," Andre told TV.com "Not that I would stop doing music to teach kids music, but I always thought that, you know, especially rap that was a young man’s game, and the older I get I’m like, ‘okay I don’t want to be 45 years old rapping.’ So I said, ‘maybe it will be cool if I go back to school and actually be an art teacher,’ because that was like my love before I started doing music, you know, drawing and painting. So what you see in the cartoon is I guess an exaggerated example of what everybody thinks of the music industry, you know, so you’ll get used–so you’ll be familiar with it.” For Class of 3000, Andre will voice the lead character Sunny plus write and perform a new original song for every episode of the 13-episode series. To get the lowdown on all the characters, a sample of the music and a sneak peek behind the making of the show, check it out here.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno The name Jim Jonsin may not be familiar to most hip-hop heads, but when they hear songs from Trick Daddy, Danity Kane, or Pretty Ricky, they can definitely identify his sound. Producer extraordinaire Jonsin was awarded BMI Songwriter of the Year at the organization’s sixth Annual Urban Awards ceremony in New York, as well as being named to its Top Urban Producers list. Three of his songs made the Most Played list: Trick Daddy’s “Let’s Go,” along with “Grind With Me” and “Your Body,” both by Pretty Ricky. “That was amazing, just crazy,” Jonsin said about being awarded for his work. “For a guy who rarely got any checks from all the writing and producing I’ve done, it’s pretty huge for me. It means a great deal.” Jonsin is now a staff producer for Atlantic Records and also has his own label, Rebel Rock Entertainment under the Atlantic umbrella. He’s now developing his recently signed artist 21 Reese and is producing tracks for Trey Songz, B5, Mario Vazqujez, Lil Wayne, Trillville, Baby Bash, Ruben Studdard, J-Shin, Tampa Tony and T-Pain.
While Immortal Technique has been busy at work on his forthcoming “Middle Passage” album, he recently took some time out to sit down with URB Magazine for his first cover story. Look for the Immortal Technique issue to hit newsstands early next month.
By: Rizoh Rapper Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Broadus) was arrested Thursday at Bob Hope Airport on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a gun and transportation of marijuana, authorities said. Airport officers stopped Snoop Dogg at about 3:45 p.m. for an alleged vehicle code violation in the passenger loading and unloading zone, according to Burbank police Sgt. Kevin Grandalski. Police said they soon discovered a gun and marijuana in Snoop’s vehicle. The 35-year old rapper was then taken to the Burbank Police Station Jail where he was booked on gun and drug charges, said Grandalski. "There was no basis for this arrest," the rapper’s attorney Donald Etra said in a statement. "We believe that once this is cleared up, all charges will be dismissed." Snoop was released on $35,000 bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Monday in Burbank Superior Court. It’s not the first time Snoop Dogg has ran into trouble at an airport this year. As we previously reported, the Dogg Pound veteran attempted to smuggle a 21" collapsible baton into an airplane last month. The baton was confiscated by airport authorities and Snoop Dogg was allowed to continue his flight.

Erving played most of his professional seasons with the Sixers before being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Pitbull just released his debut album, M.I.A.M.I., in 2004 but it feels like he’s been in the game for much longer than two years. Still thriving off the hit singles “Culo” and “Toma”, Pitbull is set to drop his latest album on Halloween. Leading off with a new single called “Bojangles”; Pit’s new album El Mariel feature guest appearances from Pharrell Williams, Wyclef Jean, Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, Fat Joe, Ken Y, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy and DJ Khaled. "They have this misconception," Pitbull said about the hip-hop industry trying to classify him. "They’ll say, ‘He’s just this Latin rapper, he’s a reggaeton act, he’s crunk.’ They don’t know what to say about me. [After El Mariel] a lot of folks are gonna start saying, ‘You gotta watch out for that boy Pit.’" Production duties are being handled by Pharrell, Wyclef, Lil Jon, and Mr. Collipark. The album title, El Mariel, is named after the infamous Cuban boatlift that relocated almost 125,000 cubanos to Florida in 1980. You can also listen for Pitbull in the new video game, Scarface: The World is Yours as he voices one of Tony Montana’s henchmen.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Jay-Z agreed to be a secret character in NBA Live 07 for Xbox 360 and PS3, but if you expect to see him in the recently announced Def Jam: Icon, think again. Last week EA Games announced the development and release of Def Jam: Icon for Xbox 360 and PS3 in March 2007. Past games have featured most of Def Jam’s roster of artists like Ghostface Killa, Ludacris and Slick Rick, but never Jay-Z. And he won’t be on this one either. "Jay doesn’t do fighting games," Former Def Jam prez Kevin Liles said at an EA PS3 event in San Francisco. "He’s an avid gamer. He’s a ‘Madden’ fan. He’s a great friend of mine. But that’s not something he does. I guess it’s important to him to keep a certain cool that he has." So that dream matchup between Nas and Jigga? Not gonna happen. Apparently Hova doesn’t want people fantasizing about beating him up.
