The press release is as followed: “I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Mr. Weiss, who helmed the artist’s releases on Jive Records in the 1990s as a member of A Tribe Called Quest. “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music / Island Def Jam family.” “I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.” Q-Tip has been credited as a producer on Kanye West’s revered “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” as well as West’s much-anticipated 2011 collaboration with Jay-Z, “Watch the Throne.” Q-Tip has been in the studio working with Rico Love, Marsha Ambrosius, Kendrick Lamar, and Fiona Apple. He also produced songs on the just-released fourth solo album by bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding. Q-Tip along with former co-members of hip-hop collective A Tribe Called Quest produced and was heavily involved with the documentary, “Beats, Rhymes, and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest,” released in July 2011. Viewers were able to revisit the group’s rise to prominence and glimpse the start of Q-Tip’s solo career. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the Q-Tip story leading up to the 2013 release of THE LAST ZULU.

After Havoc’s outburst on twitter against Prodigy a few nights ago. Havoc issued a statement regarding the tweets and clarified that it was not him sending those tweets: “Just getting back into NY after my Easter weekend with family and friends in Jersey. I left my phone at a gas station yesterday evening while on my way to Jersey after a glorious Knick’s game. To all Mobb Deep fans: it’s business as usual! It’s Mobb Deep all day!!! My twitter account @THEREALHAVOC will be down until further notice. The only other real account is @PRODIGYMOBBDEEP. Ignore the rest. One!” But wait there’s more… The Breakfast Club played an audio this morning of Havoc dissing Prodigy yet again! They even had N.O.R.E. chime in on the subject to verify the call… Shortly after that Havoc called in to deny the tweets and the audio as well. All this is up in the air until all the facts come out, what do you guys think??
Havoc took to Twitter late last night to air his beef with Prodigy. Instead of speaking of actual gripes he had with Prodigy, Havoc took the time to hurl insults at his former partner-in-crime. In a lengthy Twitter rant, Havoc questions P’s sexuality, mocks him, and ridicules P as well. According to Devi Dev the rant and outburst is “very real”. E-40 is a hustler; you can’t deny that. The Bay Area legend pulled one over on consumers last March when he released a double album, sold separately on the same day, and he’s back at it again, taking things to a whole new level on his triple album, The Block Brochure: Welcome To The Soil 1, 2 & 3. 40 Water showed his hustler ambitions by selling this as both a package deal and three separate albums. Combined, The Block Brochure has sold over 32,000 units, making E-40 the real winner this week. Miami crew ¡MAYDAY! did more than scratch the surface this week by landing an unexpected Top 200 slot with the release of their Stange Music debut, Take Me To Your Leader. The album features Tech N9ne, Ace Hood, and Murs, among others. In other release news, DJ Premier & Bumpy Knuckles scanned a respectable 3,000 units of their collabo album, KoleXXXion. You can check out photos from their album release party here. Check back next week to see if Nicki Minaj lands the number 1 spot with her zany sophomore effort Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Scott Storch, legendary hip-hop producer and PR-nightmare, is being sued by would-be songstress Treena Ruberg, who claims that Storch’s rampant drug use prevented him from delivering on a $45K production agreement. TMZ reports according to Ruberg’s lawsuit, back in October 2011 she paid Storch $30,000 up front to produce 6 songs on the singer’s upcoming album, which he agreed to have ready by the end of November, having assured Ruberg he was “cured of his past problem” with drugs. Ruberg claims Storch “continued to have a drug addiction and other personal problems which rendered him incapable of producing any recordings,” and wants her money back, including an additional $70,000 for the out-of-pocket expenses she incurred when Storch failed to deliver up the tracks. As Storch was just arrested for cocaine possession back in early February, it seems like Ruberg has a pretty solid case….although in Storch’s defense, $30K is nothing on the $30 million he blew back in 2006, and “problem” and “cured” are totally relative anyway, right?

Personally, this writer has never been a fan of Hip-Hop beef. In my opinion, it overshadows the music, leaving everyone in a “he said, she said” frenzy; which ultimately takes away from the art. (more…)
