On Sunday July 28, 2013, the world renowned Rock Steady Crew held it’s 36th Anniversary celebration in Central Park, NYC. The event featured a reunion performance by Pete Rock & CL Smooth, as well as performances by Brand Nubian, Cormega, Special Ed, Craig G, The Arsonists, Homeboy Sandman and more. The show also featured DJ sets from DJ Premier, Tony Touch, Evil Dee, and DJ Eclipse, DJ JS-1. On July 20, 2013, Peter Rosenberg hosted the second annual Peterpalooza. The 2013 Governor’s Ball Music Festival had one of the craziest lineups of any Summer music festival. To call it epic would be an understatement. That is until a torrential downpour hit the tri-state area forcing much anticipated acts like Pretty Lights, Kings of Leon, and Erykah Badu to cancel their outdoor performances. Regardless, thousands of fans attended the weekend’s events and most of them left with an earful of dope music and clothes covered with mud. iHIpHop was on-hand to catch all of the weekend’s festivities including performances by Kanye West, Nas, Freddie Gibbs, Azaealia Banks, Animal Collective, Thievery Corporation and more. Over Memorial Day weekend, Rhymesayers’ Soundset Festival returned to Canterbury Park to bring hip-hop to concertgoers in Minneapolis. The hometown favorite Atmosphere shared the headlining duties with Snoop Dogg, while Juicy J, Mac Miller, Tech N9ne, Brother Ali, Joey Bada$$, ScHoolboy Q and more also performed. The Downtown Music festival returned to New York CIty on May 10, 2013 to highlight a selection of buzzworthy artists from across the country. The evening started out at Element where Earl Sweatshirt, Ryan Hemsworth, and Antwon performed. The festivities continued at Capitale where Black Hippy was in attendance and ScHoolboy Q played an extended set. On Friday May 3, 2013, the City of Gods held a mansion party, dubbed ‘Bible Study,’ in the Bronx. The party kicked off in the afternoon with Hood Chef manning the grill as he served up barbecue to those in attendance. Meek Mill headlined New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on April 7, 2013 where he also showcased artists on his newly established label, Dreamchasers Records. While Meek took the crown for best performance of the night, Louie V Gutta, Lee Mazin, Lil Snupe, Jordan, Square Off, Pain N Da Ass, and Trips N Slim also won over the crowd. iHipHop.com kicked off the weekend in Manhattan at the Whitney Museum of Art where the ten-piece psychedelic soul group, King Holiday, was on hand for a live performance / exhibit entitled ‘Bloo Voyage,’ as part of the SmokeForBlues festival. iHipHop then made its way to Brooklyn for Covert TV’s rooftop launch party where Hood Chef cooked up some excellent BBQ for those in attendence. Once a year, Austin, TX transforms into the music capital of the world during the annual SXSW Music Festival. This year was no exception, as fans in attendance were able to experience countless live performances from sunrise to sunset each day, with numerous showcases and lively parties throughout the city. iHipHop was granted exclusive access to the music video shoot for Jet Life’s “No Sleep” off their upcoming Jet World Order 2 album. Curren$y, Trademark Da Skydiver, and Young Roddy were all on set in Atlanta for the shoot. The video was directed by GRVTY and features plenty of beautiful women, fast cars, and clouds of that loud.
