Detroit is releasing amazing hip-hop music. Crown Nation, Quelle Chris, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Danny Brown and a whole roster of gritty, rocky, sooty rhymers are giving “homegrown” a place in rap music again. This socially-relevant and wholly irreverent tape by Denmark Vessey titled Don’t Drink The Kool Aid will be in the rotation regularly through the fall (courtesy DJ House Shoes and Dirty Science). Do yourself a favor, and play.
Black Milk might be the most complete producer/rapper in hip-hop. Still, he remains chronically slept-on. This album, No Poison No Paradise, will probably cement him as a critical favorite. Stream at the link.
