The New York Yankees became the first team in 2009 to clinch a playoff berth last night, as they also finally figured out a way to beat the Anaheim Angels in Anaheim. The Yanks clinched when technically when the Oakland A’s beat the Texas Rangers last night, but A-Rod’s sac fly in the top of the 9th inning that scored center fielder Brett Gardner didn’t hurt either. The Yankees have the best record in baseball, and will likely continue to play hard despite this playoff guarantee as they’re still fighting off the Boston Red Sox for first place in the American League East.
