A convict named Dexter Isaac, who is currently serving a life sentence in prison, has come forward as the person who robbed and shot Tupac in Manhattan’s Quad Studio back in November 1994. Isaac asserts that he was paid $2500 by James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond for the shooting/robbery. In addition to the money, he was also allowed to keep most of the jewelry which he stole from Tupac. Henchman apparently requested the bigger of the two stolen diamond rings, as he had plans to remove the stone and place it in a new ring for his then girlfriend, Cynthia Reid. Isaac claims that he still owns one of the chains which can be used as evidence. He is serving a life sentence for murder, robbery, fraud and witness intimidation charges after being indicted by the government in 1998.

Isaac came forward with this information today, June 15th, just one day before what would have been Shakur’s 40th birthday. This disclosure was triggered by a statement released by Henchman in which he asserted that Isaac and ‘Winnie’ Harris were working with the government in an investigation of his alleged drug dealing. Isaac stated:

“I want to apologize to his family [Tupac Shakur] and for the mistake I did for that sucker [Jimmy Henchman]. I am trying to clean it up to give [Tupac and Biggie’s] mothers some closure.”

Henchman had been wanted by the federal authorities because of his alleged involvement in a cocaine distribution operation. He turned himself in on May 24th after it had been reported that he was ‘on the run’. Henchman denied this, saying that:

“The events over the past week, to say the least, have caught me off guard. Although I have been aware of an investigation taking place over the last four years, I was never informed that an arrest warrant had been issued in my name. I first learned about that warrant through the media when the news was released last week.”

Henchman stated in May that he thought he would not receive a fair trial, as he believed that Isaac and Harris were government informants:

“If the government is relying on informants like Winston “Winnie” Harris, a convicted drug dealer and Jamaican deportee, who came to me and motioned via hand signal that he was forced to wear a wire and begged me to skip town or Dexter Isaac who is serving life in prison plus 30 years, then I’m sure I will not be offered a fair trial”.

Isaac stated that he was comfortable to speak on record about the incident as the statute of limitations had expired and no one can be prosecuted for the robbery/shooting at this time. He also said that he wished to clear his conscience and prove Henchman’s involvement in the incident, as he was infuriated by Henchman’s allegations that he was an informant to the government.

Isaac has long been a suspect in the 1994 shooting case, as has an associate named Spencer “Scooter” Bowens, who is also currently serving a life sentence. This shooting is seen as the spark of the deadly feud which culminated in the deaths of both Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. See Isaac’s written admission of his role in the shooting at AHH.
