Well, this should be great.
A$AP Mob’s Awgest initiative—essentially controlling the music market through various creative endeavors—has been quite the spectacle. In roughly three weeks, we’ve received Twelvyy’s debut album, 12, Ferg’s mixtape, Still Striving, all which culminated in the recently released Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy. But despite these great projects, something’s been missing from this awesome Awgest.
Mob leader, A$AP Rocky, has been incredibly busy with supplying the industry fire features to go along with his near-total participation on both Cozy Tapes—the first one released in early November 2016. However, as much as we love Rocky gracing a track, we crave him in solo capacity. His last studio album, At.Long.Last.A$AP, pushed the creative envelope beautifully thanks to a medley of experimental and hyphy production paired with Rocky’s lucid flow and stellar features—Kanye West and ScHoolboy Q’s names decorated the tracklist for instance. And finally, it looks like we’re going to receive this project’s highly-anticipated follow-up sooner rather than later.
In a recent Complex interview with the entire Mob promoting Cozy Tapes 2, the interviewer couldn’t resist asking Rocky when we could expect his next album. With an apt response, Rocky replied, “ASAP. It’s about to drop.” He went on to answer the interviewer’s inquiry of will it release before 2017’s end with a terse yet relieving, “For sure. For sure.” Hopefully he wasn’t just blowing off Complex to feed us the answer we wanted to hear.
If Rocky’s Mob contributions serve as any indicator of his upcoming album, it should be stellar. Rocky is fantastic at adhering to new trends without ever compromising artistic integrity, and I expect his next album to follow suite.
