If you’re really following indie hip-hop, you already know that Strange Music is killing the game. The label, founded by the independently platinum Tech N9ne, has been the platform for new artists such as ¡Mayday! and Jay Rock, and is responsible for the resurgence in Brotha Lynch Hung’s career. Last week, Strange was on the come-up with their latest release, Paranormal by Prozack. If you’re unfamiliar with Prozack, he’s a Michigan bred white rapper in the horrorcore genre, so needless to say his music isn’t for everyone. While it’s not quite hip-hop, electro-alternative group Death Grips made as substantial showing with their latest project, The Money Store. The group, who is signed to Epic Records, is set to release another album later this year. It’s been a while since I’ve heard Mickey Avalon’s name. The dude had a serious buzz a few years back and his track, “My D*ck,” was not only catchy, it was just about everywhere. Well, Mickey kept his loyal followers fiending and gave them their fix this past week by releasing his long-awaited sophomore album, Loaded, through Suburban Noize. The album sold which features Cisco Adler and Andre Legacy moved over 3,000 units since its release. Other notable releases this week came from up-and-comer Huey Mack and Boston veteran REKS, both of which sold under 1,000 units.
