As probably most guys saw (after they took their girlfriends on that lovely Valentines Day dinner), the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest and the Footlocker Three-point Shootout yielded no repeat champions.
The Toronto Raptors’ Jason Kapono had his chance of a three-peat (joining the ranks of only Craig Hodges and Larry Bird) gunned down by the quick-draw of the Miami Heat’s Daequan Cook—while Dwight “Superman” Howard felt the wrath of his arch nemesis, Nate “Krypto-Nate” Robinson.
A former Slam Dunk winner himself, the 5’8” guard from the New York Knicks used his 6’11” foe as prop by dunking over him, and thus vanquishing the caped-crusader.
Chicago Bulls’ rookie Derrick Rose also made his way onto the grand stage by beating out the New Jersey Nets’ Devin Harris and the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Mo Williams in the Playstation Skills Challenge.
Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs was also a participant, but having Eva Longoria [Parker] as a consolation prize isn’t such a bad thing.
Already, next year’s Dunk Contest (scheduled to take place in Dallas, TX) is shaping up to be a much-anticipated event.
That’s probably due to the fact that one of the premiere players in LeBron James has tentatively thrown his name into the hat as a contestant.
The last bit of business for All-Star Weekend is the actual game, which takes place tonight, with both sides harboring enough firepower and talents to make Dr. James A. Naismith smile in his grave.
The East Coast dominated in all the previous events, now lets see how they fair in the big game…
