The proposal, sponsored by city councilman C.T. Martin, would make it illegal to sag your pants under city law. But the ordinance will is not geared towards just males. The proposal would also make it illegal for women to show the strap of a thong beneath their pants and showing bra straps in public.
Martin hopes to hold hearings and push for the proposal through churches and community organizations. If the ordinance passes, a penalty in the amount of a fine would be determined.
Opponents of the proposal say that it will fail because it perpetuates racial profiling.
