The monotony of this groundhog day reality we’re living in doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, unfortunately. Fortunately, however, this isolation spell seemingly directly correlates with an energized creativity, resulting in week-after-week of loaded releases. The floodgates have been opened, the influx of new music permeating the internet seems boundless.
For those who don’t have the time to weed through the bevy of drops, though, don’t fret — we’ve got you covered. Welcome to the 4/24 edition of the Forever Cold❄️ playlist — the hottest playlist plug in the game, curated personally by DJ Forever Cold.
Presenting an apt musical medley to help you survive quarantine, this week’s playlist is another eclectic one, including releases from: YoungBoy Never Broke Again, THE SCOTTS (Travis Scott and Kid Cudi), the late Juice WRLD, Lil Baby, Fivio Foreign, virtually the entire TDE camp, Jackboy, and plenty more.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again made a startling statement earlier this week, saying that after today, he won’t be releasing music until he’s in a better space. And we commend him for getting his priorities in order, focusing on his mental health and well-being. Before he heads into this hiatus, he’s gifted fans with his new album, 38 Baby 2. His tracks “Thug Of Spades” featuring DaBaby and “Rough Ryder” have made this week’s list.
Next up, Travis Scott has linked with his longtime inspiration, Kid Cudi, to create the new supergroup, THE SCOTTS — a play off Travis’ stagename surname and Kid Cudi’s government name. Their inaugural eponymous track was premiered during Travis Scott’s Fortnite takeover last night (April 23rd). “THE SCOTTS” features a spacey trap instrumental that recruits Trav’s staple woozy vocals, and makes way for Kid Cudi trying his hand at a more modern vocal approach.
With the birth of a new group, unfortunately comes the release from one of hip-hop’s dearly-departed, Juice WRLD. While he’s had posthumous releases surface recently (i.e. Eminem’s “Godzilla” and the “Suicidal Remix” with YNW Melly), “Righteous” is Juice’s first solo offering since his untimely passing. The new track from the Chicago standout soars on the back of the somber guitar riff-accented trap production and aware, eerie subject matter; he speaks on digesting troubling truth with pharmaceutical assistance. Rest easy, Juice.
On a lighter note, one of the industry’s leading labels, Top Dawg Entertainment, has taken over this week. With new releases from different artists each day, TDE wanted to honor their loyal patrons with a fan appreciation week. We’ve included the drops from Ab-Soul (“Dangerookipawaa Freestyle”), Isaiah Rashad (“Why Worry”), SiR (“Rapper Weed” featuring Boogie), and Reason (“Might Not Make It”). While we haven’t heard from Top Dawg’s heavy-hitters (i.e. Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q), the week isn’t over — maybe we’ll have some more TDE additions for next week?
Heading back east, one of Brooklyn’s most exciting artists, Fivio Foreign, has come through with his debut project, 800 BC. Anchored by his well-received singles (“Wetty”, “Big Drip”, “Big Drip (Remix) featuring Lil Baby & Quavo), Fivio’s new tape also features Meek Mill, “Demons & Goblins,” and proves how he’s one of the leading voices of New York’s undeniable movement. We’ve included the Meek-assisted track and the tape’s opener, “Drive By.”
Another burgeoning artist, Jackboy, has also delivered a new project, JACKBOY. Jackboy, an affiliate of Kodak Black and Sniper Gang member, has garnered fan interest thanks to his twang-infused flow and penchant for crafting melodies. His 17-track self-titled project features Kodak Black (“Like a Million”, which is included on this week’s playlist), Blac Youngsta, Casanova, YFN Lucci, and more.
Other perennial artists to drop music this week include Lil Baby (“All In”), T-Pain featuring Chris Brown (“Wake Up Dead”), and Young Dolph (“Sunshine”).
