WANG$AP coming soon?

Birds of a feather tend to flock together. With the rampant proliferation of hip-hop taking place over the last several years, multiple sub-genres and disciplines have been birthed, grouping together artists of similar styles and ambitions. Standing at the opposite end of the burgeoning trap aesthetic are Odd Future and A$AP Mob leaders, Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky, respectively. Known for their enigmatic ways that translate to genre-propelling music, these two fiercely go against the grain, challenging hip-hop’s status quo. While they impressively achieve this separately, their powers are heightened together.

Yesterday, Rocky and Tyler dropped off a collaborative freestyle, “Potato Salad”. Coming in at just over three-minutes, this freestyle and accompanying video portray the two as collaborators, friends–two men whose mutual understanding of each other equates to a palpable sonic chemistry.

A part of the Mob’s AWGE DVD Vol. 3, the “Potato Salad” freestyle is carried out over Monica’s “Knock Knock” instrumental, and shows the two exchanging verses outside of the Eiffel Tower. Complete with quirky graphics, like pictures of Leonardo Dicaprio and PS1 controllers, the “Potato Salad” freestyle is an idiosyncratic distillation of Rocky and Tyler coalescing to, yet again, challenge the status quo.

The video ends by hinting at a Rocky x Tyler project, WANG$AP, but neither have confirmed the validity of this collab’s existence.
