Always one to stand firm on what she believes Afeni Shakur who established Amaru Entertainment after the untimely death of her son Tupac is ready to take on Hollywood giant Morgan Creek after they filed a suit against the company last month. Morgan Creek implied that the company which handles all the unreleased work of the slain rapper had backed out of negotiations for a biopic movie about the life of the rapper. The company responsible for movies such as True Romance and the Ace Ventura series had allegedly told other companies that it owned the rights to such a movie which prevented Amaru from discussing the possibility of the film elsewhere.
An attorney for Amaru stated “The Morgan Creek lawsuit is heavy-handed interference with the Tupac movie. It has no merit whatsoever. Our cross-complaint is going to result in Morgan Creek having to pay millions in compensatory and punitive damages for harming our business.” The countersuit was filed in an LA court this morning and if successful will award Amaru $10 million in damages.
