album sales week of 4/13/10
.
MGMT “Congratulations” – 66,796 (47% digital)
Gucci Mane “Burrrprint (2) HD” – 19,606 (24% digital)
Murs & 9th Wonder “Fornever” – 5,523 (45% digital)
Masta Killa “Live” – 119 (35% digital)
.
some quick commentary… first of all, those Masta Killa numbers are kinda ugly. In his 4th full week of sales, Inspectah Deck’s album “Manifesto” outsold Masta Killa’s 1st week. Granted, I think Masta Killa’s album is a live one, but still. It’s kinda ugly.

What’s interesting to me, is to watch the shift from physical to digital in progress. Here we are, and after a few years of seeing digital sales creep up from low percentages to around 25% – 33% of total sales, if we take this week’s albums, Gucci Mane, who one would expect has a low percentage of digital-music-buying fans (less broadband penetration in the southern markets), did 25% of his total sales as digital. So if that’s the low-end, then MGMT’s hipster-with-itunes-account-friendly “Congratulations” is the other end of the spectrum, pulling almost 50% of it’s sales from digital.
What kind of weird stats are these? What about all of the other rap albums that dropped?
like what?
Little Brother, Fashawn, Cypress Hill, Diabolic, Louis Logic,…..just to name a few release that seem to get overlooked here.
Also, why do I get flagged when I post here? It's a little discriminatory isn't it?
Cypress Hill, Little Brother & Fashawn (a re-issue album) all streeted yesterday. Those numbers don't come out until next week. We did over look Diabolic & Louis Logic, but chances are they don't even want you to see their numbers.
