So the first time I peeped this video was about a month ago. Saw some internets chatter about it. I watched it and remember thinking that one of the homies (@PaulCantor) had made a good point on twitter in saying that this song, artist, video etc. was really like a comedy sketch’s idea of what a hip-hop song is. Specifically, it called to memory the Dave Chappelle skit where he talks about how the one white dude in a crew (in this video, his name is “White” and he’s the one white guy amidst a whole posse of gangsta girls and boys in case you couldn’t tell who I’m talking about) is usually the craziest one, because you never know what he did in order to earn the right to be there, and the respect of his peers.

Once again, “White” is that dude. From the crazy/googly-eyes look he shoots at the camera around 1:18 to the guns, bandannas, drugs, chains, bandannas, booze, half-naked chicks-in-the-shower-rubbing-all-up-on-each-other, and Bentley with a driving-miss-daisy type chauffeur, this guy is straight wildin. So much so that when one of my boys sent me a link to this video yesterday, and i was, how shall i say, in the midst of my 4/20 celebration, it creeped my out something awful. I don’t know whether it was the fact that “White” has about 9 thick-ass dreadlocks on his head, or the fact that he seems to have a gray stubble beard, or the fact that every other word in this song is “cocaine” or “code name,” or his grimacing mug, or the fact that his rapping skills might lead me to actually believe the lyrics to his song, but something about it straight up creeped me out. And I was lounging in my place, enjoying my national holiday, thinking how much I wouldn’t like to run into this dude in person.

When I got to the office this morning, I shared my epiphany/hazy day dream with some co-workers, and realized that this needed a blog post ASAP. Needless to say, I’ve been bumping “Code Name” by “White” all day.
