Artists like Drake, Cardi B, and Kendrick Lamar graced the deep list of nominees.

Since its 1980 inception, BET has played a prominent role in proliferating black culture-themed content. An authority in the hip-hop landscape, BET began acknowledging the industry’s brightest talents at their inaugural award show in 2006, showing homage for the most impactful voices in the genre. Last night, Tuesday October 16th, BET continued this tradition with their 13th hip-hop awards show, hosted by stand-up comedian, DeRay Davis.

Stars like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Beyoncé, Cardi B, headlined the nominees, populating big ticket categories like “Best Hip-Hop Video”, “Album Of The Year”, “MVP Performer”. The victors in these categories were Donald Glover for “Feels Like Summer”, The Carters for Everything is Love, and Cardi B, respectively.

Paying tribute to behind the line people as well, the award show highlighted the lesser known, yet equally important, individuals who bring our favorite songs and albums to life with categories like “Producer of The Year” and “Video Director of The Year”–the awards went to Pharrell and Karena Evans, respectively.

The late XXXtentacion also took home the honor of “Best New Artist”.
