DEF JAM PRESIDENT DEAD

It saddens me to even report on this as Shakir Stewart was one of the most likeable execs in Hip-Hop, even before he climbed into the top seat at Def Jam, Shakir had a unique ability to spot and develop talent. Shakir Stewart was found dead in his Atlanta apartment yesterday with one single self inflicted gun shot wound to the head.Shakir who was born in Oakland and educated at Atlanta’s Morehouse College was the man who discovered artists like Rick Ross, Ciara, Young Jeezy and Beyonce while in roles at various labels.Thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.
