Deep into summer, and the temperature continues heating up with each passing day. But amid the perpetual forehead wiping and blasting air conditioners, there remains one cool source: the Forever Cold❄️ playlist. DJ Forever Cold is back applying his expert filter to the bevy of drops to present you with some necessary new drops.
Headlining today’s updates are: Gunna, J. Cole, Drake, and Ski Mask The Slump God.
Kicking things off, Gunna has made good on his promise of delivering the deluxe counterpart to the acclaimed WUNNA album. Coming in at a loaded 26-tracks, the extended version has an additional eight-songs, including features from Lil Uzi Vert, Yak Gotti, Young Thug, NAV, and Future. Gunna’s tracks “200 For Lunch,” “Relentless” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, and “One Watch” featuring Young thug have made this week’s list.
Heading up north to Fayetteville, NC, the king himself, J. Cole, has birthed two new tracks, “The Climb Back” and “Lion King On Ice” — packaged as Lewis Street. The new two-pack serves as the impetus for Cole’s highly-anticipated sixth studio album, The Fall Off. Both tracks collectively serve as a microcosm for J. Cole’s aesthetic: the former is a laid back offering that speaks on Cole’s accomplishments, produced by Cole himself; the latter is an introspective tale with a more modern instrumental, produced in-tandem by jetsonmade, T-Minus, and Cole.
Next up, Drake continues his recent run of singles and collaborations by linking with Headie One for the UK-inspired drill single, “Only You Freestyle.” With assumed sneak disses aimed at Kanye and Pusha T, the new Drizz x Headie One loosie shows that perhaps Drake isn’t quite over that consequential beef, and doesn’t plan on relenting anytime soon.
Last, but certainly not least, fan-favorite Ski Mask The Slump God has returned with his triumphant new single, “Burn The Hoods.” Replete with a Cole Bennett-directed video, the new Ski Mask furthers his bombastic, eccentric style — one he somehow manages to make endearing. With the current divisive political and civil climate, “Burn The Hoods” is a necessary hit of unfiltered thoughts from an influential source.
