In late January, J. Cole elated the music world with his first 2019 single, “Middle Child”. Announced through a series of cryptic tweets that would later prove to be lyrics (I’m Counting My Bullets, I’m Loading My Clips, I’m Writing Down Names, and I’m Making a List), “Middle Child” is a deft metaphor for being in between the old generations and the new wave. It’s Cole telling us how he’s the best through the very trade he claims to run. Today, he’s come through with the music video.
