I’m Him coming soon.

Kevin Gates’ album mode is different than most. While artist will promote forthcoming albums with singles and other marketing tactics, few adhere to the prolific mindset that Gates has adopted throughout his career. As he prepares for his next studio LP, I’m Him, the official successor to the acclaimed Islah, his lone studio release, Gates has been on musical warpath. Today, that tunnel vision intensifies with the release of yet another new track, “Neva Land.”

As part of his I’m Him promotional strategy, each of KG’s recent singles have been accompanied with a geographical tagging, i.e. last week’s singles, “Sober State Of Mind” and “83 Babies,” were both tagged with “I’m In New York Witt It.” On “Neva Land,” the NOLA rapper takes a trip down south to Houston, appropriately contextualized with “I’m In The H Witt It.”

Potentially denoting his widespread appeal, Gates’ regional marketing approach is perhaps intended to dismantle municipal barriers in celebration of the greater good that is Kevin Gates’ music. By the sound of “Neva Land” — and his previously released singles — fans are in for a treat with I’m Him, whose release date is still TBD.
