Trainer Dawn Brancheau, 40, died when she reportedly slipped into the tank and was attacked by the killer whale named Tilikum.This Whale definitely has a vendetta,Tilikum was responsible for two previous deaths – a previous trainer in 1991 and trespasser in 1999.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sea World in the loss of a member of their family,” said Nancy Chan, spokeswoman for the park in a prepared statement for the press. “This is a tragic situation.”
“As with any facility that has killer whales, or any species for that matter, our park follows standard operating procedures and safety precautions when working with any animals.”
The park has been closed in the mean time, but Chan says that it will open for the season on March 6.
The Orange County Medical Examiner states that Brancheau probably died from multiple traumatic injuries and drowning.
