Lil Wayne‘s most recent album–“Rebirth“–has been certified Gold by the RIAA, meaning it has sold over 500,000 copies since it’s official release. The album was released early to coincide with Weezy‘s 1-yr prison sentence, being served at New York City‘s Rikers Island. Regardless of the early release (and the bad response it got from tastemakers around the country), the album was #1 on Billboard‘s rap charts, and #4 on their R&B / Hip Hop charts. Lil Wayne has been criticized for rushing this release because it is very eclectic for a hip hop album, however, Weezy explains, “I have evolved both lyrically and musically as an artist and I want everyone to hear my growing pains…This is probably my best work yet.“
