What happens when you take Al Green’s 2008 comeback, Lay It Down, flip every song into samples and put smooth rhymes over them? You get Illmaculate and G_Force’s The Green Tape. It’s hard to believe this is the same Illmaculate who won 2004’s Scribble Jam and the World Rap Championship two years in a row because he’s nowhere as mean at any point on this record as he was in those battles. He’s still clever with the one liners like “higher than Urkel’s waistline” (“What More”). This is just a precursor to Ill’s solo debut, Skrill Talk, featuring Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Inspektah Deck, Crooked I, and more, which will hit stores this Fall. Props to FRSH SLCTS
