Quavo & Murda Beatz Show How “Practice Makes Perfect”

As the old saying goes…

2019 was a prolific year for Migos — but not as a group, necessarily. Last year saw the rookie solo albums from each member, beginning with Quavo’s Quavo Huncho, and ending with Takeoff’s The Last Rocket. While Culture III is on the horizon, it seems like the trio is still intent on bolstering their individual brands, as Quavo has just come out with his first 2020 single, “Practice Makes Perfect.”

Linking with frequent collaborator, Murda Beatz, the two architect a familiar soundscape, one anchored by trap instrumentals and auto-tuned vocals; it personifies the song’s title, as it shows the two perfecting their well-worn style. “Practice Makes Perfect” isn’t a departure from Quavo’s musical conventions, but it does show a continued honing of the very skill set that has made him a star: catchy hooks, a triplet flow, booming production — and yes, an emphasis on ad-libs.

While the direction of his 2020 campaign isn’t quite certain, Quavo’s enjoying a bright start to the new decade with “Practice Makes Perfect.”
