Last year, Rich Brian delivered a deep, introspective album, The Sailor, that simultaneously managed to impart commercial appeal. It was a testament to his maturing artistry, and a departure from the meme world that made him famous. It showed that he’s more than just some novelty. Continuing to embolden his intrepid artistic mentality, the 88Rising star has come through with a new single and video, “Don’t Care.”
The new Rich Brian offering finds the protagonist doing his best to remain unaffected by extraneous elements: whether it’s people not taking him seriously, boxing him into a category, or flat-out doubting him, Brian’s out here to prove that he doesn’t care. For him, making music that meets his personal standards while continuing to push the creative envelope is the ultimate barometer of his success. Everything else is just noise.
“Don’t Care” is a single from Rich Brian’s forthcoming album, 1999, slated for an August 25th release.
