If you have never heard of Aloe Blacc, you may have heard his music anyway. His first single , “I Need A Dollar,” off his new album, is the theme song for HBO’s “How To Make It In America.” Aloe Blacc is an R&B cat whose style is reminiscent of the golden age of R&B, the 60’s and 70’s. With all the ‘Pop & B’ out there in the mainstream, it’s refreshing to listen to some music that has a lot of soul. Aloe has found a perfect home for himself on indie powerhouse label Stones Throw, also home to the late-great J Dilla, Guilty Simpson, Mayer Hawthorne, Madlib, Madvillain, Oh No, and Strong Arm Steady just to name a few.
He dropped his second single “Femme Fatale” off his upcoming album “Good Things.” While the album doesn’t have a release date yet, it’s expected to drop this year. A leaked version of the album hit the internet recently, but according to Stones Throw the album is still in progress. Either way I suggest you show this dude some love. We did an interview with Aloe Blacc a while back that you should also check out, as it’s pretty interesting. As always, let me know what you think.
