At last year’s CMJ showcase, I got my first taste of Rocky Business.  The band’s been bubbling on NYC’s Lower East Side scene for quite some time, and it looks like they’re finally ready to take the world by storm.  Next week, the group headed by the duo of Strictly Business and Johnny On The Rocks will release their second mixtape, White People Are Drug Dealers Too, coinciding with a release party at Mercury Lounge.  The following month, after a full schedule at SXSW, the group will drop their debut EP, A Rebel’s Roar, and hold an in store performance at Best Buy in Union Square.

I found this press release about the group earlier today:

Prince isn’t the only one who thinks Kim Kardashian can’t dance!

NY genre dipping duo Rocky Business are about to drop their second mixtape in conjunction with FrankRadio, RockSmith and Babygrande. All in anticipation of their debut EP release
A Rebel’s Roar‘ March 22

Rocky Business will show you how to squeeze watermelons into lemons; that is, how to throw a mixtape release party at Mercury Lounge, drop their debut EP “A Rebel’s Roar” (March 22), perform at Best Buy,  and make a Kim Kardashian-starring music video, all in one month. The million-miles-an-hour, electro-punk rap-riff ensemble Rocky Business doesn’t care if you can’t keep up with their plans for NYC domination but here’s the lowdown, regardless.

Comprised of MC Strictly Business and Jonny on the Rocks, Rocky Business kick it all off on Feb 23rd at Mercury Lounge with their official release party for White People Are Drug Dealers Too, their 2nd mixtape in partnership with FrankRadio, Rocksmith, and Babygrande. Be there for when they take the stage at midnight and team up with the So So Glos, Trouble Andrew, and Hussle Club. There will be a special meet and greet prior, with drink specials that we’d love for you to join in on.

The concept behind White People Are Drug Dealers Too is one we all know too well. According to Rocky Business,  “We are all addicts of a substance beyond our control.  In today’s consumer driven society, addiction goes beyond drug abuse.  Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and Natalie Portman are addicted to fame; but who’s the fueling the addiction?   Is it the fans?  The media?  An innate trait?  Regardless of who’s supplying, fame can be just as deadly as an overdose.  For all we know, you could be the supplier…because White People Are Drug Dealers Too.

“Kim Kardashian” is the first cut off the mixtape. With just one listen, you’ll have your head-bobbing from the militant flow moving in tandem with the disco rock-fueled jerks of your hips. And if that wasn’t enough, the video will have your eyeballs do back flips as it leaves you hypnotized while undergoing a slight seizure. Prince isn’t the only one who thinks Kim Kardashian can’t dance, as Rocky Business samples The Rapture’s “W.A.Y.U.H (People Don’t Dance No More)” for this banging track.
.
Warming up for the gig, Rocky Business will be hanging out at East Village Radio with AndrewAndrew for an interview and banter-thon. Make sure to tune in to EVR for a live streaming of the interview on Tuesday, Feb 22nd.
.
Because Rocky Business’ knows nothing short of fifth gear cruise control, the band is also gearing up for their debut EP release titled A Rebel’s Roar on March 22nd 2011, via FrankRadio/Babygrande Records. To celebrate, Rocky Business will be having an in-store performance at Best Buy in Union Square on March 23rd at 7pm.

Time to pull up your socks, Rocky Business is trampling through these next couple of months.
