There’s potential here.

Rappers turned actors is growing into a Hip Hop trope. Legends, like Tupac, Ice Cube, and Eminem, made a successful transition, showcasing their multifaceted artistry; not as gifted actors, like Snoop Dogg, have also tried their hand at the silver screen. Good or bad, it seems like most rappers have grand entertainment aspirations beyond music, and they leverage their attractive brands for positions. Most recently following in this well-walked path is French Montana, accompanied by a “seasoned” actor, Wiz Khalifa.

Inking a deal with Netflix, the two are participating in the coming-of-age flick, The After Party. Variety reported that the movie will follow two aspiring musicians en route to achieving their musical dreams. Producing the film are Def Pictures, WorldStar Hip Hop, Live Nation Productions, and Hunting Lane Films.

The release date is still to be determined, but they’ve started casting the other parts, including actors such as Teyana Taylor and Blaire Underwood.
