Get your tissues ready.
SoundCloud sensation, XXXtentatcion, might have garnered initial fame from his energetic, deafening hit, “Look at Me!”, but the 19-year-old artist is also known for his diverse aesthetic—it’s part of his enticement. With his debut album release, 17, lurking around the corner, X offers his fans a taste of his sentimental side on the recent track, “In The End.”
The piano-dominant melody lays an emotional foundation for X to pour his heart out over. Evoking a palpable poignancy, X profoundly discusses his depression as he seeks peace in dark waters. Almost conceding to his demons’ whispers, he uses the 90-second track to sing, “In the end / I won’t cry, I won’t falter / In the end / I won’t run, I won’t hide / It’s too late / I won’t stand by the altar.”
Earlier this month, X made a series of Instagram stories detailing that his new album won’t be for those who listen to his music to “not think”—it will be for the depressed. On August 25th, 17’s scheduled release date, we’ll find out for sure.
