Sampling an array of soulful production.

Both YBN Cordae and Chance The Rapper are releasing their official solo debut studio LPs next month — yes, Chance The Rapper still has yet to drop his “official” solo album. Today, the two talented young artists united for Cordae’s heart-warming track and video, “Bad Idea.”

Recruiting soulful vibes through an eclectic sampling medley — “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, “My Way Home” by Kanye West, “Be Real Black for Me” by Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, and “Home Is Where the Hatred Is (Pieces of a Man Version)” by Gil Scott-Heron — the Bongo production provides the ideal soundscape for Cordae and Chance to speak from the heart.

Rapping and singing about how their hard times and humble beginnings structured their paths towards prosperity, Cordae and Chance’s motivational rhetoric dualistically speaks to their younger selves while inspiring kids at large dealing with unstable circumstances.

Hopefully “Bad Idea” marks just the first collaboration between these two.
