Danger Mouse Releases Album With No Music…

dangermouse1In the constant struggle which is “Artist vs. Label,” famed producer and one-half of the group Gnarls Barkley, Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton has set a new precedent by releasing an album with no music.

The producer who arrived on the scene via his Grey Album mash-up which contained Beatles music and Jay-Z lyrics released his Dark Night Of The Soul project with no music.

The project contains a blank and recordable CD, accompanied by a book with 50 photographs.

The sticker on the shrink-wrap explains cryptically: “For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.”

The controversy is centered on a dispute with recording giant EMI, and Danger Mouse himself, and in a gesture of good faith, EMI released the following statement:

Danger Mouse is a brilliant, talented artist for whom we have enormous respect. We continue to make every effort to resolve this situation and we are talking to Brian directly. Meanwhile, we need to reserve our rights.”
