Very few Hip-Hop collectives have made a lasting impression on Hip-Hop. But as for the ones that do, there’s always that staple lyricist who assures that you’ll be back for more.

Enter the world of Duck Down Records. One of the most successful and long-lasting independent labels around, which also happens to be home to Sean Price.

From kicking down the door during the golden era of Hip-Hop back in the 90’s with Heltah Skeltah, to now being a solo artist, the man formally known as Ruck has kept a level of consistency that has eluded many of his peers.

Now, with his newest album on deck, Mic Tyson, the Brownsville, Brooklyn native is out to prove that hardcore Hip-Hop is still alive and well.

Welcome to Brooklyn…

iHipHop.com: You just released your most recent project, Mic Tyson… For the people who haven’t bought a copy yet, can you tell them what they’re in for?

Sean Price: They can expect Sean Price; you know what I mean? The way I am is the way I am… I talk my bullsh!t, and I find a nice beat, and say the most stupid sh!t I can say on a record…

Then after that, I’ll make another one the same way… Then I compile enough of that bullsh!t to make an album, you know what I mean?

iHipHop.com: [Laughing]… This album has been in anticipation for a long time, but it took just as long to be released. Why was that?

Sean Price: It just did… I was talking about Monkey Barz for a long time too before it came out… It was the same thing, man… I took my time… Sometimes life gets in the way, you feel me? This Hippity-Hop sh!t is cool, but life is real life…

iHipHop.com: How would you compare Mic Tyson to previous projects as Monkey Barz, and Jesus Price Superstar?

Sean Price: I don’t because each album is for that time… “This album has to be better than the last album…” I don’t even get into all of that sh!t… I’m just like, “It’s a dope bunch of songs, so lets put this sh!t out…” I don’t compare, I let ya’ll do that…

iHipHop.com: [Laughing]… Speaking of dope songs, what was your favorite song on this album to create?

Sean Price: Umm… ‘Bully Rap’ with my man Realm Reality on it… I was in Cali with Alchemist, and we had some weed brownies… So then I had ate one, but it didn’t kick in… The brownie said it was 33% stronger, but I’m from New York, I don’t know what that means…

After I ate it, Alchemist started laughing at me, but it didn’t kick in, so I grabbed the other brownie, and read the instructions… It said it might take longer, and I’m pretty unhealthy and fat so I ate the other one…

Then Alchemist said that I was going to kill myself, and that he was waiting on something bad to happen… But the sh!t still didn’t kick it, so then I rolled a backwood full of kush, and just started smoking…

Then it finally kicked it, and I remember looking up, and asking for some water, because my eyes were so red… Then we knocked the song out, and I said: “Due to my weight gain, I had to double the dosage/the drugs that I do/a n!gga stay toasted…” That was a funny moment…

iHipHop.com: [Laughing]… With you being a veteran in the game, has the recording process gotten easier or harder throughout the years?

Sean Price: Do you hear what I talk about?! I don’t have any concepts [Laughing]… You hear this guy?! He got jokes, and sh!t [Laughing]…

iHipHop.com [Laughing]…

Sean Price: I don’t talk about sh!t, man… My man, Large Professor told me that he loves my music because I’m the only one that can come with 18 different ways of f*cking a n!gga up, and they all sound entertaining… Yeah, that’s it right there…

iHipHop.com: Can the world expect another Heltah Skeltah album in the future?

Sean Price: No, I’m all done…

iHipHop.com: What’s the biggest misconception about Sean Price?

Sean Price: That I’m this mean bully guy, and I’m really not… I just don’t give a f*ck about a lot of sh!t, but I’m not a mean bully… You can check my report cards… I got “S’” for satisfactory because I got along with others… I just don’t play the fake industry Hip-Hop bullsh!t game that a lot of people play… I’m just not with that…
