Fabolous, 28, is back on the streets, after his manager posted a $15,000 bail. The Brooklyn rapper was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a defaced firearm on Tuesday morning, just hours after he was struck in the right thigh during an ambush in New York.
Standing near an armed court officer, Fabolous’ financial manager took advantage of the publicity surrounding the Tuesday shooting–and announced that the rapper’s next album will be released in February, according to the New York Daily News. "I’m shameful for saying this, but you got to take advantage," Kevin Webb revealed before sliding 15 piles of $100 bills under the cashier’s window.
Fab was less friendly as he limped out of Manhattan Criminal Court and hopped into a Mercedes. Before driving off, the rapper said he did not see the shooter who ambushed him in a parking lot near Diddy’s restaurant Justin’s on W. 21st St. near Fifth Ave. "I have no idea," Fabolous said, his right thigh bandaged. His cell mate, Rashad Ray Stancil, disclosed that the rapper was quiet while in custody. "His legs were killing him pretty bad," Stancil said.
Fabolous, real name John Jackson, was fleeing from the scene of the shooting on his way to the hospital. Prosecutors said a witness who heard gunshots outside the restaurant wrote down the make and license plate of a vehicle leaving the scene. Cops then stopped the Dodge Magnum blocks away and found Fabolous bleeding inside. They also found two weapons—a .380 semiautomatic and a .40 caliber firearm—stashed in the front compartment.
Cops were investigating whether Tuesday’s incidence was related to the mugging of Boston Celtics point guard Sebastian Telfair, who told cops his $50,000 chain was snatched from his neck outside Justin’s. Telfair, also from Brooklyn, reportedly looked at a lineup of four men, including Fabolous, but failed to identify the thief.
Fabolous is due back in court on October 27.
