It’s been a great week for hip-hop, and it was all started by the man of the hour, Tyler, The Creator. His latest album CHROMAKOPIA took fans by surprise. Sonically, it’s arguably Tyler’s strongest work to date. From a charts perspective, he’s projected to top the Billboard Hot 100, which is quite the feat in and of itself, but even more so when you consider that he achieved the feat with only four days worth of activity, as opposed to a full week, due to his Monday album release. Despite mentioning that the album had no features, it is in fact littered with them, from Lil Wayne to Teezo Touchdown. There’s even a Playboi Carti verse that is exclusively on the album’s vinyl version. If you haven’t listened yet, take fifty-three minutes out of your weekend to do so. You won’t regret it.
Meanwhile, Lil Uzi Vert returns with the follow up to his 2020 project Eternal Atake. Uzi carries the load almost entirely by himself on the project, finding his penchant flows and crooning melodies. Surprisingly, Uzi did not drop any singles prior to the album release, which is interesting because Uzi’s singles tend to perform well and become the focal point of his projects. Regardless, it’s exciting when Uzi drops, as he’s been at the forefront of rap’s new generation for nearly a decade. Let’s hope he continues to innovate and expand his sound.
