J. Cole Doesn’t Feel Drake’s Nas Comparison

The top Freshman pick besides Wiz, of course, J. Cole recently spoke out on  other up and comer Drake’s comparisons of the MC to veteran Nas.

Drake told Complex during their Feb./March issue that J. Cole is his favorite rapper right now and claimed the MC the new Nasir, while comparing himself as the next Jay-z.

Jermaine, however, spoke with MTV and explains that it’s far too early to be making such comparisons saying:

“Comparisons are natural. You’re going to compare LeBron to Jordan or [Dwyane] Wade to whoever you compare him to. But in this particular instance, and no disrespect to [Drake’s] opinion, because that’s how he feels, but I feel like it’s too early.”

“You can’t call things like that, that early. You can’t say I’m Nas because, look, Nas was in the game for 16 years. What if I’m not here next year? What if you’re not here next year? I don’t think you can say stuff like that this early, but I understand what people are saying. At his status right now, he’s the most talked-about guy in the game. The Nas comparison is like, ‘He gets a little bit beyond the surface,’ but I feel like when it comes to those comparisons, it’s way to early. And you never know, 10 years from now, I could be Jay.

Both Drake and J. Cole are probably the two biggest artists emerging from the new class and they both have different styles. Many think Drake is the savior to this rap sh*t, but in reality although he does make hip hop music, most of his songs are more pop based and gear towards the mainstream radio, ringtone, commercial market.

I believe J. Cole is truly the real “Drake“, as his music has that real hip hop sound and flow that is too real to ever be a mainstream commercial sound. If you haven’t heard The Come Up and The Warm Up, you should really get on that because it’s only a matter of time before Cole takes over and makes you feel what Jay did back when he first broke onto the scene.

Drake is not the next Jay-Z, Drake is the next Wayne, in that he can rap and sing for the world, but Cole is the next Jay-Z because he raps for the hip hop world. But that’s just my opinion.

Listen to The Come up, The Warm Up and So Far Gone to decide for yourself.
