Janet Jackson has dumped Virgin Records to reunite with her boo Jermaine Dupri at Island Def Jam Records. But don’t expect Ms. Jackson to mix business with pleasure, as she’ll be reporting to Def Jam CEO Antonio “L.A.” Reid.

“She’s on Island, but it’s more or less [Def Jam CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid’s] project,” JD told Billboard magazine recently. “I let him deal with that on a day-to-day basis. He’s going to A&R that project, too. Janet’s record is one that he’s wanted to do for a long time. He’s very passionate about it.”

JD also disclosed that he’ll be supervising Mariah Carey’s new album, which will compete with Janet’s new album (to be overseen by L.A. Reid). We’ll be watching to see who’ll come out on top.

Janet’s exit from Virgin Records should come as no surprise, as her last two releases there failed to match the success of her past projects. You may recall that Dupri left Virgin shortly after 20 Y.O., Jackson’s last album, flopped.
