The New York upstart has something to say.
With the 2010s having come to a close, a new decade is upon us, bringing with it the potential for stylistic progression — spanning fashion, entertainment, music, and more. Embracing this spirit, some artists have wasted no time ushering in the 2020s with new music. Among those stalwarts is the New York sensation, Lil Tjay, with his first song of the decade, the aptly-titled “20/20.”
While Tjay was revered in 2019 for his melodic penchant, evidenced by his feature on Polo G’s hit “Pop Out,” the 18-year-old MC uses “20/20” for introspection.
Over a dynamic piano-accented trap instrumental, Tjay is mentally present, as he takes inventory of his meteoric rise. Seemingly in the blink of an eye, he’s gone from obscurity to mainstream success, seeing his Spotify monthly listeners exceed 10mm — placing him in the top-400 most popular Spotify artists.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Tjay is wasting no time bringing his 2019 momentum to the new decade. With “20/20,” he’s making an early case for artists to watch explode this year.
