Recently Omarion and Cee-Lo have been in the news in regards to their new label homes. Here’s the scoop.
.
Omarion is the latest artist to sign with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint, a rep from Universal recently confirmed. This may look like a good look, but Omarion has signed to Young Money. Not Young Money/Universal. That means that their is no company that has agreed to distribute Omarion‘s music. Without a distributor, signing to Young Money really means nothing in my opinion. I’m sure that won’t prevent Omarion, from talking about how awesome he is. That guy is such a chief.
.
Cee-Lo has also inked a deal with the re-launched Elektra imprint. According to Elektra head honcho John Janick “We are planning on building an eclectic brand, we’re looking for artists with potential. We’re not an incubator label; we’re going to develop artists and get them to the next level.” Well isn’t that a nice generic quote from a label exective. I don’t know enough about this situation to know if it’s a good look, but I do know that Cee-Lo is ill. The Soul Machine is one of my favorite albums ever. I think I remember reading in an interview that Cee-Lo has a whole album with Jazze Pha beats that is just sitting on a shelf somewhere. Talk about an album of panty droppers. I need that in my life.
