Photographer Barbara Nitke (last image), who shot stills on about 300 adult films in New York during the 1980s, has launched a campaign on Kickstarter to get her photo book, American Ecstasy, published.

The ’80s are considered to most the golden age of hip-hop and it’s also recognized as a golden age for the adult industry as well. According to Nitke, many are unaware that New York was a hotbed for hardcore back in the day. Because she likes to share, she also explained where the magic happened:

There was a studio in Corona, Queens, aptly called Adventure Studios, where a lot of the movies were made. It was there from the 1970s, and director Jerry Damiano shot there a lot, followed by another big name director of the period, Henri Pachard. We also shot a lot in a loft in the East twenties, and a midtown townhouse (reputedly owned by somebody who was in jail).
