Looks like Ashanti is stepping into shoes once filled by Diana Ross as she stars in the Broadway adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz which starts a month long run in June at the New York City Center. This will be Ashanti’s debut role on Broadway and possibly the new move that people have been predicting for her as she has allegedly retired from the music bizz.
The Wiz was originally a movie made in the late seventies starring the former Supreme along side funny man Richard Pryor (RIP) and Michael Jackson (when he was still a lil cutie) directed by acclaimed director Sidney Lumet.
Ashanti being on display on a weekly schedule can really put her on the list of hardest working. There is the position which she could make an actual mark which would allow access to the indusrty which artist give up in there careers by their first few years by making silly errors. If her camp had the pull which other diva’s in the game had she’d be hall of fame bound.
