Video: Kendrick Lamar Performs “i” and “Pay for It” on Saturday Night Live

For the sixth episode of Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary season Top Dawg Entertainment's star pupil Kendrick Lamar hit the stage as the musical guest alongside guest host Woody Harrelson. Kendrick performed two songs, one being his radio hit, The Isley Brothers sampled "i" and Jay Rock's "Pay for It". For "i" Kendrick took the stage with unkempt hair and blacked-out contacts (see: above photo), making reference to Method Man whose debut record Tical was released 20 years ago that day. It didn't take long until Kendrick Lamar started performing his new song "i" live. A week removed from dropping "i", the first new solo Kendrick track since good kid m.A.A.d city, the Compton rapper performed it live at the educational event We Day Toronto, which took place at the Air Canada Centre. Yesterday Kendrick Lamar debuted a new track from his forthcoming studio album, entitled "i". However, the song was met with a less than stellar reception with many fans unsure of the direction Kendrick was going on following the hugely successful good kid m.A.A.d city. Perhaps Kendrick felt the sting of the fans and media because he absolutely snaps on this Power 106 Los Angeles radio freestyle. Kendrick goes ham for roughly six straight minutes, freestyling over cuts from Jay Z and Nas. After the jump!
