As Drake once astutely proclaimed, “Damn, I swear music and sports are so synonymous / ‘Cause we want to be them, and they want to be us” on his Thank Me Later track, “Thank Me Now.” And it’s true — representatives from both professions often profess a sense of jealousy for each other’s vocation. On NBA 2K — the de facto “it” basketball gaming experience — those worlds often collide, manifesting through rappers’ obsession with the game. Now, the lines are even further blurred with the 2K20 soundtrack release.

Headlining this year’s decorated soundtrack are a collection of today’s preeminent stars: Drake, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Juice WRLD, Lil Wayne to name several. But part of the soundtrack’s allure not only emanates from the A-listers it attracts, but also from some of the less omnipresent artists who occupy sentimental real estate in fans’ hearts.

Joining the current perennial talents are individuals like: Smoke DZA, Bishop Nehru, Denior Farrar, Jay Prince, JID, Aaron May, and plenty more.

Also, fueling this genuine hip-hop connection, 2K linked with Steve Stoute and his company, UnitedMasters, to create a song submission process for burgeoning artists. Stoute and UnitedMasters have other deals with the NBA, too, like licensing their distributed artists’ track to soundtrack NBA social media content.
