Last Friday, Travis Scott elated fans with the release of his long-anticipated third solo studio album, Astroworld. Initially teased prior to his 2016 release, Bird in The Trap Sing McKnight, Astroworld plays like a documentation of Travis’ career to date: it’s a blended soundscape, introducing the lyricism from his mixtapes to the energy of his studio releases. For all intents and purposes, it’s the most defined, lucid Travis project to date.

One of the album’s standout cuts, “Stop Trying To Be God”, is a polyamorous offering that distills the rockabye Kid Cudi humming, Stevie Wonder harmonica, James Blake soulful vocals, and, of course, Travis’ staple half-sung half-rapped aesthetic. It’s further evidence of Travis’ encompassing musical command that was previewed on his earlier work, and artfully brought to fruition on this project.

Bringing this dense cut to life, Travis recently released the song’s music video, directed by Dave Meyers. Co-starring with his baby momma Kylie Jenner, Travis navigates the video while trying to repent for his since in fear of God’s wrath.
